Commissioned to design the visual identity and typography for Vans’ ‘Shikumen’ skate video, directed by Tommy Zhao.
The typography design for Shíkùmén incorporates elements of the Chinese characters “石库门” subtly embedded within the letters S, K, and M. This integration reflects the architectural essence of Shikumen itself, a seamless blend of cultural influences. Just as Shikumen housing merges traditional Chinese courtyard layouts with Western townhouse structures, the typography merges Eastern characters with Western letterforms.
